Detroit Bicycle Company

Cycle Exif
Steven Bock seems intent on helping to restore Detroit’s sense of dignity, whose reputation as the ‘Motor City’ has suffered in recent years. Detroit’s new tag as ‘The Renaissance City’, is bolstered by beautiful bikes created by the Detroit Bicycle Company.

This is the Madison Street, which has been popping up on bike and style sites from Culture Cyclesto The Cool Hunter over the last week. It isn’t Steven’s only frame, there’s four more complete bikes on his site, each named after a street or avenue in Detroit. Each one is an eclectic yet tastefully compiled bicycle that has, at their core, a hand-built frame by Steven. On either bike, you can expect to find anything from wooden Ghisallo rims, pre-war Schwinn Paramount hubs, vintage Campagnolo Record or Superleggeri, topped off with a smattering of Cinelli and Brooks.

Steven’s Columbus SL frames are offered in a variety of finishes such as brushed, polished, chromed or nickel-plated, as well as paint or powder-coated. The Madison Street has been copper plated, which will weather superbly, as has the vintage headlight, which is a detail that hearkens back to the golden age of Detroit’s automotive industry.

When Stig saw this bike, he nearly fell off his chair. The Dark Knight of bicycles; The Crimson Gold Vendetta; The Wolf in Gold Clothing. Call it what you will, (and Stig definitely will) – THIS is a sexy beast.

This divine two-wheeled stallion is the Madison Street bike with a copper plated frame and fork. It has a Cinelli 135 mm copper plated pista stem. Cinelli no. 14 bars; Brooks b 17 copper rail seat; Campagnolo Record seat post and Campagnolo Record head set copper plated; Campagnolo Record bottom bracket; Campagnolo super Record pista cranks painted blk. base/clear coat; Campagnolo super Leggari pedals and track rims with Vittoria Zaffiro tires.

Holey Moley! She’s a beauty, no?

Detroit Bicycle Company is one hell of an addition to the retail market…and we like it. The only problem is; do they deliver Down Under?

Madison Street Bike by Detroit Bicycle Company

Bill Tikos | The Cool Hunter

It would seem a shame to take one of these black retro beauties out into the unforgiving streets of a Detroit winter. It might be best to display the hand-crafted Madison Street bike indoors, perhaps in the living room, nicely leaning against the mantel. It certainly deserves a place next to other pieces of art.

Detroit Bicycle Company founder, Steven Bock, builds each bike to order from the finest parts. For those who appreciate high-quality bike parts, all frames are made with Columbus SL CRO-Mo tubing and Nova lugs. The Madison Street’s main attractions are the beautiful copper-plating of the Campagnolo and Cinelli parts, track rims with Vittoria Zaffiro tires and the inimitable Books leather saddle.

Each bike is customised, so prices vary, but we’ve seen complete bikes priced at $3,200 and up. – Bill Tikos

2 Wheel Motion – Detroit Bicycle Company

You know those Chrysler commercials touting the tagline “Imported from Detroit”? Well, we like to imagine that there’s another one but rather than cars they’re packed with similarly seductive night shots of Detroit Bicycle Company’s two-wheeled artistry. The company’s works are rolling testaments to killer design, with each bike entirely hand-crafted in Motor City. Indicative of a bygone Motown era, founder Steven Bock builds and finishes each frame himself imbueing each with complete bike with vintage track components. The result is an assembly of unique one-off custom single-speed bikes befitting of garage space — right by your 1930 Duesenberg J Walker Legrande.
